First lucky ticket holders to be confirmed tomorrow
Ceremonies and Skating attract the greatest interest for
PyeongChang 2018

PyeongChang, May 7 – Tomorrow, Monday 8 May, Koreans that applied for tickets during the first phase of ticket sales for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 will find out if they have been successful. The lucky winners will be informed by e-mail and have until May 21st to complete the payment process.

With ice sports being hugely popular across Korea, it was no surprise that Short Track Speed Skating, Figure Skating and Speed Skating received the highest number of applications, while the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, which will be watched by millions on TV around the world, were also high demand events. Tickets for all events will still be available in phase two, which begins in September, as venue layouts are finalized and previously unreleased seats become available.

POCOG President, LEE Hee-beom said, “The ticketing process for PyeongChang is well underway, and it is great to see the interest from the people of Korea in our most popular sports and of course the ceremonies which will be a wonderful showcase of our culture to the rest of the world.

“The Games will be a wonderful celebration across all of the 15 sport disciplines on offer. We want to build on the amazing atmosphere experienced by so many when we last held an Olympic Games back in the summer of 1988 in Seoul. All those who attended the Games 30 years ago will still have strong memories, and we want as many people as possible to come to the Games next year to make memories of their own and experience something new and exciting at PyeongChang 2018.”

162,000 tickets will be allocated for the first Olympic Winter Games in The Republic of Korea. With Koreans traditionally late buyers, this figure is in line with POCOG’s estimates for phase one. As phase two of sales is first come first served, Koreans will need to be quick to make sure that they don’t miss out on this once in a life time experience.

Those that have been successful in this initial phase of the ticketing sales will be contacted by email and have until May 21st to complete the payment process using VISA or cash for their transactions.

VISA continues its long-term support of the Olympic movement as a worldwide partner of the IOC.  For PyeongChang2018 they will continue to be the preferred payment method in all countries, and the only accepted payment method in Korea and the United States.

Tickets can only be purchased directly from Pyeongchang 2018 or its authorized ticket resellers. Please use the Pyeongchang 2018 website checker (https://tickets.pyeongchang2018.com/atr) if in doubt about the validity of any website claiming to sell Pyeongchang 2018 tickets.
