Located at the center of the Taebaek Mountain Range, Jeongseon perfectly encapsulates what it means to be a crisp-clean region in Korea. As one of the venues for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Jeongseon is overflowing with shimmering azure mountains and valleys that are a feast for the eyes. Here are some exciting leports (a portmanteau of leisure and sports) that’ll allow you to have your fill of both thrills and sights.

What’s the Korean Peninsula doing in Jeongseon? There’s no need for confusion ? this is simply Muldoli Village, which became famous for its resemblance to the Korean Peninsula after various media outlets introduced it to the public. Now, you can see Jeongseon’s personal Korean Peninsula at a glance yourself via the Skywalk.

Standing on the Skywalk and looking down through the transparent reinforced glass beneath your feet, you’ll feel like you’re on top of a cloud above Donggang River. Why not try seeing Donggang River’s hidden Korean Peninsula and spectacular scenery from a Donggang River hermit’s point of view?

Fly across the sky above the green valleys of Gangwon-do with Jeongseon’s Zip Wire experience! Steel wires have been placed in Jeongseon between the valleys of Donggang River so you can enjoy a thrilling downhill experience.

With a height of 325.5m and a length of 1.1km, Jeongseon’s Zip Wire, which connects the Skywalk with the Gwangha-ri Eco-Experience Center, has the longest course in Asia. Not only that, but the Zip Wire can reach up to a whopping 70km/h when speeding downhill! Can you manage to keep your eyes open long enough to get a full glimpse of the exotic landscape of Donggang River? Be careful ? everything goes by in a flash when you’re traveling at breakneck speeds!

Along the Rails, Along the Landscape

Rail Bike

[Source: Korea Tourism Organization]

Why not try riding a rail bike along the old rail that stretches from Gujeol-ri to Auraji and taking in the beautiful landscape of Jeongseon? A combination of the words rail (railway) and bike (bicycle), Jeongseon Auraji Rail Bike is a unique experience that involves racing above an old railroad on a four-wheeled bicycle.

Admire the rugged cliffs adorning both sides of Songcheon Valley and the river, which flows alongside the rails, as you ride through Jeongseon Aruaji Rail Bike, which boasts the longest course in Korea with a length of approximately 7.2km. As there are very few uphill paths, the course will be all smooth sailing, giving you ample time to relax and take in your surroundings.

Cool and Fun

Donggang River Rafting

[Source: Korea Tourism Organization]

Enjoy a cool and fun experience with Donggang River Rafting! Donggang River, which is formed from the waters that flow out of the high mountains of Taebaek Mountain Range, is a “meander”? a river with a zigzag pattern reminiscent to that of a snake’s slithering movements. The winding currents of Donggang River make it an incredibly popular rafting destination.

Especially, Donggang River Rafting is a treat for the eyes, presenting outstanding views of Jeongseon’s Blue Bird Cliff, Sky Valley, Munjabong Peak, and more. But what truly sets it apart from the rest is the fact that you can see Korean doty barbel (Hemibarbusmylodon) and Korean splendid dace (Coreoleuciscussplendidus), which are said to exclusively inhabit bodies of water with a quality of Grade 1.

Try out the exciting rafting experience and enjoy the brilliant natural scenes of the Korea’s greatest body of water in the highest quality water that the country has to offer!
