Heart Racing Excitement in a Scene Straight from a Novel!

Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival (Sept. 4 ~ 13)

In autumn, Pyeongchang shimmers brilliantly, as if salt has been sprinkled over its buckwheat flowers. Bongpyeong, PyeongChang, the back for the novel [When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom], is home to the Hyoseok Cultural Festival(named after famous novelist Lee Hyoseok in Koreaand his short stroy [When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom]) in September, the peak season for buckwheat flowers.  The theme of 2015’s festival is none other than “Buckwheat Flowers are Couples & Love!” It is said to be modeled under the theme of the passionate love story between the novel’s Heo Saeng-won and the daughter of Seong.

The site of the Hyoseok Cultural Festival is like a scene straight out of the pages of a novel. Learn about the Literary Garden by visiting the Lee Hyo-seok Memorial Hall and marvel at a novelesque scene of pure beauty at the Nature Garden. Finally, head to the Traditional Garden to try out the agricultural specialty products and traditional foods of Pyeongchang and have fun with the region’s traditional games!

Enjoy the emotional upheavals within the beautiful work of literature and come face-to-face with the landscape and tradition of Gangwon-do at the same time!

The Ugly Duckling Syndrome of Mindungsan Mountain

Jeongseon Mindung Mountain Eulalia Festival (Sept. 19 ~ Nov. 8)

A bare and forlorn slope nestled between mountain ranges blanketed by a dense canopy of trees, Mindungsan Mountain was once the target of jokes. However, with the coming of autumn, this former ugly duckling has blossomed into a beautiful swan that displays its charm and beauty for all to take in. Shall we find out about the Mindung Mountain Eulalia Festival, where you can find a 1,118m tall mountain shrouded by a sea of eulalias?

Jeongseon’s Mindungsan Mountain is one of Korea’s 5 largest silver grass colonies, and home to the Eulalia Festival from September to November, when the flowers are in full bloom.

True to its name, Mindungsan (meaning bald / bare mountain) Mountain is nearly devoid of trees from its ridges to its peak. Instead, the mountain is draped in an overflowing cloak of eulalias in autumn. Why not try hiking up the mountain ridge and admiring the dazzling eulalias as they flutter in the autumn breeze?
