PyeongChang, May 30 – To conclude the five-day Peace Education Festival jointly organized by the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) and the Gangwon Provincial Office of Education (GPOE), 400 students and teachers from seven Asian countries walked along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in the South Korean city, Goseong today.

The students wrote down words, phrases and drew pictures about ‘peace’ in their native language on 13 sections of the traditional Korean paper, “hanji”, to create the 239-meter Peace Banner. The length of the banner, which represents the 239 kilometers DMZ, was carried by the students during the Peace Walk.

POCOG President LEE Hee-beom who also joined the walk said, “These students are the next generation of leaders in our world. Through this symbolic Peace Walk, we hope that they were able to understand the significance of peace and unity and continue to carry this message with them in all that they do in life.”

SHI Yujie from China said, “I was able to learn that together through dialogue we can solve conflict. It was great to walk together with international friends for peace.”
